Group Counsellor

Hours: 21 hours per week
Rate of pay: $63/hour
Contract Length: 2-3 months

Maggie’s seeks Black candidates who can demonstrate their ability to provide mental health support following a trauma-informed and anti-oppressive approach, for the role of Group Counsellor.

The Group Counsellor plays a critical role at Maggie’s, responsible for service delivery in our new Mental Health Program funded by Women and Gender Equality Canada. We are looking for a registered therapist, counsellor, or social worker to provide emergency mental health support to sex worker participants of Maggie’s, through group therapy sessions, including a Black sex worker exclusive group focused on dealing with racial stress and trauma.


Responsibilities:

  • Use a trauma informed, anti-oppressive, harm reduction lens to work with staff and service-users
     

  • Offer six group therapy sessions focused on healing from trauma to Black service users following the standards of your professional college or order

 

  • Offer six group therapy sessions focused on healing from trauma to a mixed group of service-users following the standards of your professional college or order

 

  • Offer two group training sessions to staff of Maggie’s focused on developing strategies for burnout prevention and management

 

  • Complete all documentation related to your work accurately and in a timely basis

 

  • Communicate regularly with the Acting Operations Director regarding the execution of your work
     

  • Submit weekly statistical registers to the Acting Operations Director

 

  • Other duties as required

     

Qualifications:

 

  • Certification as a therapist, counsellor, or social worker required

 

  • Knowledge of the social, political and legal matters affecting sex working communities, particularly Black and racialized members
     

  •  Demonstrated ability to work effectively with people from various abilities, life situations and cultural backgrounds
     

  • Exemplary emotional intelligence, communication, conflict management and problem solving skills
     

  • Demonstrated ability to work collaboratively and independently
     

  • Ability to work flexible hours as required

Individual Counsellor

The Individual Counsellor plays a critical role at Maggie’s, responsible for service delivery in our new Mental Health Program funded by Women and Gender Equality Canada. We are looking for a registered therapist, counsellor, or social worker to provide emergency mental health support to sex worker participants of Maggie’s. This individual should follow WPATH standards of care and use a trauma-informed and anti-oppressive approach within their practice. 


Responsibilities:

  • Use a trauma informed, anti-oppressive, harm reduction lens to work with service users and staff. 
     

  • Offer one-on-one virtual counselling sessions to service users and staff following the standards and ethics of your professional college or order
     

  • Integrate WPATH standards of care into your practice. 

  • Offer resources and references for service-users and staff to support and orient them towards appropriate mental health resources 

 

  • Provide support letters to service-users and staff in order to facilitate access to other services. Notably, provide support letters to transgender and non-binary service-users seeking to access gender reassignment surgery or hormone replacement therapy

 

  • Complete all documentation related to your work accurately and in a timely basis

 

  • Communicate regularly with the Acting Operations Director regarding the execution of your work
     

  • Submit weekly statistical registers to the Acting Operations Director

 

  • Other duties as required
